In a game where defense dominated, Team Gold prevailed 18-ix over Team Blackness, winning the 44th almanac San Antonio Sports All-Star Football presented by H-E-B. Pleasanton linebacker, Team Black's A.J. Ayala, was the Whataburger Impact Player of the Game, with two sacks and x tackles.
ABOUT THE GAME
Since 1978, the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game has been a showcase of the area'southward top loftier school football talent with a goal of shining a light on local talent and enhancing their opportunities for college scholarships. The game was originally formed past the Kiwanis Society and afterwards operated past Kids Sports Network until 2013. Since 2014, the game has been managed by San Antonio Sports and held in the Alamodome following the All-American Basin, which features more than than 100 of the nation's best players and is televised on NBC. Due to COVID-xix, the 2021 All-American Bowl was cancelled and the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game was played at Heroes Stadium. The game featured 112 seniors representing 62 San Antonio area high schools.
Players are nominated by their high schoolhouse coaches and chosen by a choice committee featuring broadcasters, journalists and former coaches. The San Antonio Sports All-Star Football game is televised on CW35 and broadcast on ESPN 1250 radio in San Antonio.
2022 Team Blackness Bus MARK SOTO, JOHNSON High School
Mark Soto'southward 26-year coaching career started at Poteet High School in 1995. He was also an banana passenger vehicle at Seguin, Corpus Christi Calallen, Homes and Laredo United before joining the staff at his alma mater (1991), Judson High Schoolhouse. He then left for his get-go athletic director and head football coaching job at San Marcos. Soto went 35-49 in 8 seasons at San Marcos and led the Rattlers to the playoffs 3 straight years (2015-17). His 2017 squad recorded San Marcos' first ten-0 regular season since 2000. The Rattlers lost in the first circular of the playoffs. He became Johnson High School's head coach and athletic director in 2020, where he and his staff weathered the pandemic leading the Jaguars to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
His parents, Juan and Virginia Soto, are credited with molding his beliefs. Supporting all Soto'due south endeavors, his siblings John, Lisa and nephew Christopher, play an of import role in his life. The morals and values of his parents, and back up of solid high school and college football game programs, are intertwined within his athletic program. 2022 Squad Gilded COACH RICKY LOCK, SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL
Ricky Lock, with 32 years of coaching experience, 25 as head coach, has spent the last seven as athletic director/head football motorcoach for Southside High School. Prior to Coach Lock's tenure, Southside's 62-year football history consisted of four playoff appearances with ane district title in 1992. Since Lock's arrival in 2014, they have won 49 games, made playoffs 6 times, avant-garde in playoffs twice (the merely two playoff wins in schoolhouse history), and claimed ii district championships. Lock's overall record is 169-99 with 17 playoff appearances. Lock is a graduate of Caldwell High School and received his bachelor'south degree from Sam Houston State University. Lock too attended Texas Lutheran University where he lettered in both football game and baseball.
Coach Lock has three children: Lauren, Landon, and Laci, and a grandson, Mason. He is married to Leslie Lock, who is the caput girls soccer jitney at Steele High School.
